THE
TECHNIQUE – PEN AND INK – OR PEN, INK AND SCALPEL BLADE
DRAWINGS
Working by naked eye only, of
course, these very highly 'detailed` pen and ink drawings of Richard
Kennedy`s favourite rock music acts - especially Jethro Tull and Pink
Floyd - are entirely made-up of 'dots` of ink using a needle-point pen,
to, finally, achieve a maximum tonal range ('depth`) and 'detail`. Indeed,
the same highly exacting techniques as used and described in our 'Rural
Subjects` gallery.
However, in the case of most of these drawings, the additional use of the
'tip` of a scalpel blade 'on top` of the 'dots` of ink, adds an even
greater 'depth` and 'detail` to the picture.
Completed towards the end of the 1980s., when our Gallery was in Bridport,
West Dorset, in the particular case of the Jethro Tull pictures, every
part of each composition and detail shows a great knowledge of the
legendary group`s music and career.
It all seems a long time ago when the Artist broke away from boarding
school in Cheltenham to travel down to the Colston Hall, Bristol with
friends to see Jethro Tull on the 'Stand Up` tour there in 1969!
A sound early escapade .........!
